Dear CSPC family,
Session met tonight to discuss our church’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The prevailing wisdom of the medical community is to cancel large gatherings to slow transmission of the virus, allowing hospitals to absorb the impact of critical cases over time. In accordance with state, medical, and presbytery guidance, we will be closing the church building for two weeks, until March 26. We will revisit those dates if there is a major change in the situation.
What does closing the church building mean?
It means all activities that take place within the church are cancelled or postponed, both from CSPC and outside groups. This includes our Wednesday soup suppers, Lenten services, Pastor Carol’s bridal shower, and all committee meetings.
What about worship?
We will still gather to worship each Sunday at 10AM, only digitally! A worship experience will be broadcast on Sundays, with two ways to participate!
1. Go to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/
2. Call into an audio-only Zoom meeting to listen to the worship service by telephone at 10AM. To call in, dial 1-646-558-8656, then enter the meeting ID 244 515 017#. You will automatically be muted, so just sit back and listen!
How can we be the church when we’re not at church?
Closing the church building does not mean we are any less the church together! We invite you to be in prayer for all those whose lives are affected and disrupted by this pandemic, especially the most vulnerable among us. We encourage you to reach out to elderly or immunocompromised neighbors who may benefit from grocery or household supplies delivery. We ask you to live out God’s command to protect the most vulnerable among us by following health guidelines and washing your hands frequently and with fervor. We invite you to center yourself in faith rather than fear, reminding yourself and those around you that our God has walked in the wilderness before, and is with us in the wilderness now.
This is not a decision the session has come to lightly, but we are unanimous in our commitment to the health and well-being of our community. Please reach out to Pastor Carol if you have questions or concerns, and may the peace of Christ be with you all.
In Christ,
Pastor Carol
